Dear Phi Beta Kappa Assoc. of ME Members and Maine Phi Beta Kappas we invite to join us,
We have four important messages for you.
The Spring meeting is coming up! See the a ached yer and come to hear about one of the most important
topics of our time.
We Need Your Dues and Support. Our treasury is becoming depleted through the provision of hand-lettered
Academic Achievement Award certificates to high school juniors, as well as mailing and administrative costs. We would
like your support to continue emphasizing the importance of the liberal arts to high school students. Your dues, and any
additional nancial contributions, are tax-deductible.
Regarding future communications, and due to the growing size of our database, we would like to shi to electronic avenues
such as e-mail and Facebook because they save money and are more efficient than paper. In order to do this, we need to
update our database of e-mail addresses. is will be our last communication to those who do not contact us with a
current e-mail address or directions regarding your paper mail address. If you do not wish to communicate via e-mail
or Facebook, please help us defray the cost of paper mailings and administration.
Our Academic Achievement Award Program for High School Juniors is Now Underway for 2011.
Please contact the chairperson, Debora Elliott Ward at delliotward@emh.org or at 973-6349 if you are interested in
presenting an award this spring, and mention the school(s) at which you would like to present the award. We are especially
in need of presenters from Aroostook County.
We are asking PBK members to consider purchasing a book for the AAA winner on behalf of the organization. Since we
have over 100 schools participating in the award program, the organization’s financial burden of purchasing a book for
each award winner is too great. Many PBK members in the state are eager to support the ideals of PBK, but are unable
to participate in events due to distance and time constraints. Donating a book o ers more opportunity for member
participation.
If you are willing to help with this project, present the certificate, or purchase one book for the Academic Achievement
Award at your high school’s 2011 awards ceremony, please send notice as soon as possible to webmaster@
mainepbkassociation.org or to the return address on the envelope. State the name of the local high school(s) you are
interested in and whether or not you wish to personally present the book. Members should be aware that some schools
do not allow outside presenters.
Thank you for considering participation in Phi Beta Kappa's continuing effort to honor the liberal arts education.
Finally, we present a slate of officers to be voted in for another two years by members attending the
Spring meeting May 19:
President: Peggy Siegle
Vice-President: Tim Benoit
2ND Vice-President: Debora Elliott Ward
Secretary-Treasurer: David Turesky
